We offer several distinct on-site training modules, each of which involves experiential learning and/or mini-simulations. PERT: Positive Employee Relations Training™ are interactive, on-site sessions tailored specifically to meet the training needs in a dedicated site or company and to provide union awareness education and information about the issues and conditions that lead to union campaigns.


PERT: 101™

In this interactive, on-site session, participants receive union awareness education, information about the issues and conditions that lead to union campaigns as well as current labor laws, facts and trends to help create positive workplaces.

Learning Objectives

  • Labor’s use of the web, technology and targeted messaging to communicate with and organize employees.
  • National Labor Relations Act and current NLRB rules that govern what managers can and cannot do or say.
  • Commonly misunderstood labor law concepts and new rule-making from the NLRB in a fun way that sticks.

PERT: 201™

PERT: 201™ is a focused and vigorous virtual course, comprised of 3 modules, that teaches the fundamentals of a positive employee relations environment, which will have immediate and practical applications back in the workplace. Participants will grow as individual leaders, focusing on self-awareness; influence and communication that help create value for your company. They will also gain confidence to communicate effectively — balancing fairness, consistency, concern and compassion while listening and managing the day-to-day operations.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the State of Unions in the U.S.
  • Participate in a live Role-play scenarios that test/reinforce retained knowledge and help to build managerial confidence
  • Recognize Cyclical patterns of workplace relations that are repeatable and predictable for every site

PERT: Issues Identification and Action Planning™

A mini-simulation that involves supervisors/managers directly in the identification of specific issues that could be used by employees as reasons to sign union authorization cards, and specific actions to resolve them.  Management decides which recommended actions will be executed, who is responsible and completed a completion date, as well as, which actions will not be executed and why, and which actions management needs more time to study.

Learning Objectives

  • Specific issues within your company that could lead to card signing.
  • Tactics organizers use to acquire signed cards and the ease of obtaining them.
  • Ways to develop detailed action plans for resolving those specific issues.
  • Closed-loop management decision-making process involving assignment of specific actions, timelines and follow-up.

PERT: PML Case Study™

An MBA-like paper and pencil case study that pits teams against each other and the clock. Involves participants in decision-making about specific strategies that will win or lose a union campaign for the company, including the impact of management actions on Company support won or lost during a simulated campaign to expose the consequences on employee votes of those actions. Available in two versions: manufacturing or retail.

Learning Objectives

  • Issues, conditions and management actions that lead to union campaigns.
  • Impact of leadership decisions made during the case study on votes in the simulated campaign to expose the consequences on company support and votes in an election.
  • Legal risks of management decisions made during a campaign.
  • Key aspects and concepts of the National Labor Relations Act in the US along with current rule-making by the board.
  • Best decisions to make in each stage of the simulated campaign

PERT: Hit the Ground Running™

In an intimate setting, senior-level labor relations experts role-play with each individual for client-tailored results. Each interactive role-playing session uses actual client-scenarios (pre-petition and post-petition) to stretch your supervisor’s communications competence, management capacity and leadership skills and help raise the confidence level when addressing questions or concerns about unions with employees.

Learning Objectives

  • Experiential learning about the best ways to converse with employees about issues, unions and the inconvenient truths of collective bargaining.
  • Intense role playing using scenarios that we create with your specific workplace issues.
  • Participants develop their own working list of actions for each of the first five days upon the first sign of credible card-signing activity and for each of the first five days after a NLRB direction of election has been received.
  • Development of the company’s preferred list of actions for pre-petition and post-petition.
  • Roles and responsibilities, communication trees, and issue-specific scenarios, role-plays and discussion.

PERT: Lawful Conversations for Managers™

Highly effective experiential learning about the best ways to converse confidently and lawfully with employees about issues, unions and the inconvenient truths of collective bargaining. PML will facilitate an intense role playing session using scenarios that we create using the client’s workplace issues. Through iterative learning, leaders get better in their own learning.
